ELAC – Importance of School Attendance Suggested topic for this month in ELAC is the importance of school attendance What Must I Include/Discuss in my Presentation? Information on the importance of attendance and how it affects a student’s success in school Parent suggestions for improving attendance at the school And then put parent suggestions in the minutes!

Attendance Presentation What Might I Include/Discuss in my Presentation? How do parents currently encourage attendance in their own families? Opportunities for parents to share “sad stories” about poor attendance and the effect it had on their own children The district’s Perfect Attendance program Saturday School or other consequences of poor attendance Excused and unexcused absences What are students missing in the first few minutes of school if they are late? What are students missing if they are picked up early from school? When to schedule doctor’s and other appointments for students Independent Study if students are absent for an extended period Attendance information from the district level – what are the expectations and consequences for attendance and absences?

Shifts in School Plan Non-Title I schools no longer have to complete a school plan at all! Consequences for AEL Should cover the school plan for English learners in ELAC, while not making suggestions on the actual SPSA Due on January 12 th, 2015 Some shifts in thinking regarding the school plan were sent to principals on November 21 st, 2014 We will cover those same shifts in this meeting just in case you are involved with the school plan See handouts
