TRANSPORTATION THEN AND NOW

Covered Wagons were made of iron and wood. It was pulled by a team of oxen or horses. This is a brake they used on the wagons.

Stagecoaches were heavy and didn’t have springs. They gave a rough ride and were very uncomfortable.

The ox cart was made of wood. No iron was used. Strips of buffalo hide were wrapped around the wooded wheels. Buggies were used to carry people. They were pulled by horses.

In the winter time snow covered the ground. The sleigh was used to carry passengers, baggage and mail. Travelers used warm bricks or stones wrapped in cloth to keep their feet warm.

The first trolley cars were pulled by horses. The trolley cars were placed on the track and the horses would pull them along.

This is a picture of Henry Ford and his first car. The Model-T ford was a very popular car of its time. It was built with a roof so you wouldn’t get wet when it rained. Today some cars are built for speed.

This is one of the first Harley Davidson Motorcycle. It was a bicycle with a motor.
