3 During the time 1880’s through 1910 people traveled, how? Walk Boat Rode horses Rode in carriages Train Bike Cars Airplane

4 Kind of boats River boats, canoes, steam boats, and barges “Barges” carry people and things across water.

5 Some people rode horses. Horse and buggy, or carriages, were the most common way to travel short distances. HORSE & BUGGY, or CARRIAGE

6 Trains - Railroad People rode trains to travel far. Trains helped build America: -The government hired men to build railroad tracks. -Men and their families moved west as the railroad grew. -Families needed stores, banks, and other things to help support their life in new America.

7 BIKE (BICYCLES) The high-wheeled bike were popular in the 1880’s. Only rich people could buy them, because back then, a bike cost 6-months pay.

8 In 1906, the “Model N Ford” cost $600. A man earned 22 cents an hour/$200 to $400 each year. Cars gave people freedom to travel easier. CARS

9 Wilbur and Orville Wright were brothers. They built and fixed bikes. They dreamed of building a flying machine. In 1903, they flew their first airplane in NC. AIRPLANE
