The word AUTOMOBILE comes, via the French automobile, from the Ancient Greek word (autos, “self”) and the Latin mobilis (“movable”); meaning a vehicle that moves itself, rather than being pulled or pushed by a separate animal or another vehicle. The alternative name car is believed to originate from the Latin word carries or carrum (“wheeled vehicle”)

4. The first modern automobile was designed by KARL BENZ In 1885. His major company “Benz&Cie” was founded in 1883. A photograph of the original Benz Patent Motorwagen, first built in 1885 and awarded the patent for the concept. In 1879 Benz was granted a patent for his first engine, which had been designed in 1878

5. In the automotive industry, its success was dominating, and quickly spread worldwide. It is Ford Model T, 1927, regarded as the first affordable American automobile. Henry Ford is the most famous automobile designer of the USA. Fords cars came off the line in fifteen minute intervals, much faster than previous methods.

6. The automotive industry designs, develops, manufactures, markets, and sells the world’s motor vehicles. In 2009, more than 70 million motor vehicles, including cars and commercial vehicles were produced worldwide.
