INTRODUCTION The process of sending and receiving information is call communication You spend 70% of your day communicating with each other. This includes listening, speaking, reading, and writing  42% listening, 32% reading, 15% reading, 11% writing

TYPES OF COMMUNICATION Verbal Non-Verbal

VERBAL COMMUNICATION Communication is the use of words to send information Speaking and writing are forms of verbal communication

VERBAL COMMUNICATION SPEAKING When speaking it is important to remember:  Language: pronunciations  Way you speak: use of slang words  Emphasis: changes the meaning  Voice: too loud, too soft, too fast, too slow  Practice: practice makes perfect

VERBAL COMMUNICATION WRITING Most of what you learn comes from written words in turn you also share by writing  School: assignments, quizzes, reports, tests, etc  Personal: letters, cards, s, texts Jobs require writing Clear writing is important  Handwriting  grammar Think through before you write

NON VERBAL COMMUNICATION Sending a message without the use of words is nonverbal communication  Appearance and Grooming  Body Language  Personal Space

NONVERBAL COMMUNICATION APPEARANCE AND GROOMING First Impressions: before you say a word people will notice how you look How you appear sends a message Grooming is caring for your body
