Muscle Milk By: Matt and Matt

Question What minerals are in Muscle Milk? What do these Minerals do for the body?

Minerals in Muscle Milk Chromium Copper Zinc Magnesium Iodine Phosphorous Sodium Potassium Iron

Chromium Slows the loss of calcium in the body Helps move glucose, or blood sugar, into cells which can be used as energy to turn fats, proteins and carbohydrates into energy. Chromium is used by many people to increase athletic performance, and to make energy.

Copper Helps make red blood cells. Keeps nerve cells and immune systems healthy. Helps to form collagen, an essential part of bones and connective tissue. It can act as an antioxidant, getting rid of things that may damage cells and DNA.

Zinc Zinc helps strengthen T-Cells, which fight infections and diseases. It activates areas of the brain that receive and process information from taste and smell sensors. Accelerates the renewal of skin cells. High concentrations of zinc are found in your retina, which means zinc is vital for vision.

Magnesium Magnesium is a key element for strong bones, just like calcium. It is the most important mineral for the heart, because it helps to strengthen the heart muscle greatly. Magnesium has been found to help prevent diabetes. It helps to alleviate, or lessen constipation.

Iodine Iodine is used by your thyroid gland to help control metabolism and development of both your skeleton and brain. It can be applied to the skin to help kill germs. It is used to prevent soreness in the mouth. And it is used to treat diabetic ulcers.

Phosphorus Phosphorus helps to remove waste from the kidney It helps to reduce muscle pain, especially after a hard workout It helps to strengthen teeth and bones It is needed for the growth and repair of all tissues and cells, and for the production of DNA and RNA

Sodium It helps to control blood pressure and blood volume Sodium is an electrolyte, so it helps the body send electrical pulses that help the transmission of impulses along nerves, which helps both nerves and muscles function better Sodium is also lost when you sweat, so it is necessary to be eating foods with sodium in them to help refill the supply of sodium

Potassium Stop cramps in the body. It is responsible for nerve cell function. It helps with protein synthesis, muscle growth and muscle contractions. Potassium helps to trigger your hearts pump of blood through your body.

Iron Iron is an important component in hemoglobin, which helps the body transport oxygen It is also necessary to help maintain the health of cells, skin, hair, and nails. Helps to prevent the body from becoming fatigued.

What’s in each serving? (per 2 scoops) 50 grams of protein 18 grams of carbohydrates 5 grams of fat 320 calories

Proteins (50 Grams) Proteins are a class of nutrients made up of amino acids Some of these proteins are essential because they can not be made by the body and must be taken in through the diet These proteins are responsible for the growth of body cells and structure such as muscle

Carbohydrates (18 Grams) Carbohydrates are important in your body because they help provide energy and protect muscle If there is a lack of carbohydrates in your body, your body will take energy out of fatty tissue and eventually your protein tissue (muscle)

Fats (5 Grams) Too much fat can be a bad thing in the body, but some fat in your diet is necessary Some fatty acids such as triglycerides and cholesterol help the body store energy, insulate us, and protect our vital organs Too much fat can clog your arteries and result in heart attack or stroke

Calories (320) Calories are a measure of energy This is the caloric breakdown: 4 calories per every gram of carbohydrate 4 calories per every gram of protein 9 calories per every gram of fat

Un-Listed Ingredients A recent report from Consumer Reports has found that in 3 daily servings of muscle milk, there have been traces of cadmium, arsenic, lead, and mercury Daily limits taken from USP (United States Pharmacopeia)

These ingredients are not listed on the nutrition label

Not listed here either

Cadmium There were 5.6µg of cadmium, which exceeds the daily limit by 0.6µg Cadmium is classified as a highly toxic metal and can damage your liver It has been found that cadmium has no nutritional value whatsoever

Arsenic Three servings a day of muscle milk provides 12.2g of arsenic which comes close to the daily limit of 15µg Long term exposure to this amount of arsenic can cause higher chances of skin cancer, bladder cancer, lung cancer, and heart disease

Lead 13.5 µg of lead was found when taking three servings a day 13.5 µg of lead passes the daily limit by 3.5 µg Consuming this amount of lead daily can increase chances of damage to the brain, nervous system, the stomach, and the kidneys Can also cause high blood pressure

Mercury There was only about o.7µg of mercury found in three daily servings The mercury levels in muscle milk stay very low compared to the daily USP limit of 15µg Long term exposure to this amount of mercury wont really do much harm to the body

Thank You
