TYPES OF LEADS ASK A QUESTION MAKE AN UNUSUAL STATEMENT DESCRIBE A SCENE USE DIALOGUE OR CONVERSATION A SHORT STORY AN ANACDOTE A RIDDLE A GENERALIZATION AN INTRIGUING DETAIL A “WHAT IF…” ONOMATOPOEIA A QUOTE

SOME EXAMPLES Read the Introduction to the Feature Article about Barack Obama. What type of lead are they using here? Now read the Introduction to the Feature Article about Tiger Woods. What type of lead are they using here? Can you see how these leads might grab your attention?

BODY PARAGRAPHS Should include: Use Supporting facts whenever possible. Use Direct quotes, they support your facts. Include your own opinion on the subject. **Remember, Feature Articles are different from News Articles. You don’t need to try to answer the questions who, what, when, where, why and how, like you would if you were writing a News Article.**
