2 What is an informative speech?

3 “Official Definition”
An informative speech is basically a speech that is aimed at educating an audience. In most cases, it focuses on a particular topic, and it will be delivered by an expert of the topic who will be able to tackle any question that may arise from the audience based on the speech.

6 GET THE AUDIENCE’S ATTENTIONS!!
Make a dramatic statement Ask a question Use a quote Tell a joke or a brief story connected to your topic (anecdote) Present a contrast between past and present

7 PREVIEW THE TOPIC Explain any background or terms that listeners need to know before the actual speech

8 APPLY THE MESSAGE TO THE AUDIENCE

Let your audience know WHY they should listen to you Give the audience a reason to listen to you & believe you

Fulfill a need to know Repeat SOME infomaration (emphasize the theme or subject of your speech) Avoid too much technical talk (language that your audience doesn’t understand) Connect information to feelings of the audience Keep an eye on the audience (watch & listen & make adjustments)

STEP 2 Narrow your topic down to 1 or 2 choices Circle them, star them, anything.

21 STEP 3 For each of 1-2 options you narrowed it down to, start brainstorming ideas & questions regarding what you can include in your speech.
