Objective Explain the uses of agricultural mechanics hand tools

General Rules Hand tools used for cutting should be sharp to improve safety and efficiency. Using the proper tool for the job can reduce or eliminate injuries Fine or small teeth on a saw blade make a smoother cut, but coarse or large teeth cut faster.

Tools and Their Uses Adjustable wrench –Used to turn various size nuts and bolts Brick trowel –Used to place and spread mortar Ball peen hammer –Used to hammer metal objects such as punches, chisels, or parts of small engines

Tools and Their Uses Cold chisel –Used to cut metal Combination square –Used to mark 45 and 90 degree angles Combination wrench –Turn both hex and square nuts Concrete float –used to level concrete

Tools and Their Uses Coping saw –Cut curves in wood Countersink –Used to flare the top of a hole to recess the head for a flathead screw or bolt Crosscut saw blade –Used to cut across the grain of the wood

Tools and Their Uses Hacksaw –Used to cut metal –There should be at least three teeth in contact with the metal Long nose pliers –Used to reach into recessed areas Measuring tools –Usually divided into 16 parts per inch or 1/16ths

Tools and Their Uses Miter saw –Used to cut angles Nail hammer –Used to drive nails to fasten one board to another Ripping hammer –Used to remove wood –Used to drive nails

Tools and Their Uses Rip saw blade –Used to cut with the grain of wood Slip joint pliers –Used to hold various sizes of materials T bevel –Used to find and transfer various angles Try square –Used to mark 90 degree angles

Tools and Their Uses Vise grip pliers –Used for extra firm holding or gripping Wire strippers –remove insulation from electrical wires –Gauge wires sizes –Crimp terminals Wrecking bar –Used to rip or pry wood
