Shickley Public Schools Speech Team Welcome to the electronic Parents’ Meeting for the 2014 Season.

Regarding Practices  Participants are expected to:  Attend practice each week  2 times each week (in 20 or 40 minutes blocks)  Practice sign-up sheets  Speakers select times that work with their schedules  Individual Events: 20 minute blocks  Group Events: 40 minute blocks  Extemporaneous: weekly draws and ongoing research  It’s important that everyone show up and be prepared for the time he/she signs up for.  Personal Practice  Participants who have the most success are those who practice on their own every day!

Speech Meets  Participants are expected to:  Attend all speech meets  Verify Entries  Dress Professionally  Stay in “speech clothes” or change to nice jeans and team shirt

General Expectations  Participants are expected to:  Be there. Be on time. Be prepared.  Check the call board / posted announcements  Be a good representative of the school  Accumulation of points  Attend meetings, practices, and meets  Meeting other expectations  Top 6 Placement (Varsity)

Lettering Requirements  Follow all team rules set forth by the coach  Earn individual practice and performance “points” according to expectations  Finish the season in good standing  Recommendation of the coach

Goals  Experience a variety of speech events  Use language creatively  Develop physical responsiveness  Collaborate  Enjoy participating in speech events  Represent the school in a respectful, positive manner  Be responsible  Perform to the best of our abilities  Encourage one another  Work hard  Celebrate successes!

Participant Contract  All participants must agree to the details put forth in the “Participant Contract.” This includes following the guidelines and meeting the expectations previously discussed in this presentation as well as abiding by school rules set forth in the student handbook.  The Participant and Parent/Guardian must sign and submit the contract to the coach.
