Wednesday, Nov. 11

Sign in at the front! If you haven’t picked up your NHS shirt yet, you can do so now!

Meeting times for next semester All Wednesday meetings All Thursday meetings Alternating Wednesday / Thursday meetings Proposed bylaw changes

Date: Friday, November 13 Time: 4:30 – 6:00 pm Location: Cafeteria / Red LGI We have a guest speaker, Mr. Smith, from the district that is going to speak with us about the different leadership styles and how we can each develop our own leadership strengths. Attendance is MANDATORY. If you cannot make LeadSem, you need to submit an excuse form with a valid reason for your absence. This must be turned in ahead of time. You will have to complete the make up activity before the end of the semester in order to obtain the leadership point, or you will be put on probation.

Attendance Pre-Approval Form / Process Point Form Probation Process

If you know that you cannot attend a general meeting, you can excuse one meeting per semester without penalty if you turn in an excuse form ahead of time. If you do not turn in an excuse form beforehand, you will receive a two point penalty. Any meeting you miss after your first excused meeting in a semester will also result in a two point penalty. The point penalty must be made up in the current nine weeks time period. Failure to complete the penalty points (in addition to the minimum required points for that time frame) will result in probation.

What’s the purpose of a pre-approval form? Service is service. Audits As sponsors, at the end of the year we sign forms verifying that we have certified and approved the service completed by our members. If the NHS national board ever had a question about our chapter or membership, we need paperwork in order to track and justify the service as well as prove we did our due diligence in checking the service hours. Organization Part of being a leader is learning to prioritize and plan ahead. The pre- approval forms encourage students to think about service opportunities in advance and not scrabble at the end before a deadline.

If you are on probation, you receive written notification that you are no longer in good standing with the organization. The letter must be signed by both the student and a parent/guardian. The signed letter must be returned in Ms. Spence in room 1910 by Nov. 20. Since you did not meet the minimum hours of service for the first nine week time period, we are placing you on probation. You will remain on probation during the second nine weeks until you make up the hours. In order to get back in good standing with the organization, you must meet all the requirements for the second nine week point check and fully make up the missing hours from the first nine weeks.

Each member is required to have obtained at least 15 hours of service (NHS-sponsored and non-NHS hours combined). At the end of the first semester, students must have at least 7 NHS service points in order to remain in good standing. The 15 points for each semester must be earned by participating in a minimum of 4 total events (NHS-sponsored and non-NHS events combined). If you have not met the above requirements at the conclusion of the warning period on Friday, December 18, 2015, you will be considered for dismissal.
