Integrated Business Performance Windows Mobile Integrated Business Performance Customer Scenarios: Network security Secure device management Application execution control Manage & update information Mobile operator business solution improvements Talking Points: We’ve done a lot of work here to address top customer requests as well as continue to keep up with the needs of the evolving industry. On the left, you’ll see areas we’ve identified as top customer scenarios. Integrated business performance is about efficiently deploying, managing and securing Windows Mobile solutions. I’m going to break down some of the new areas in Windows Mobile 6 here. When we looked at security in particular, we focused heavily on 1) administration, reporting and monitoring; 2) protecting corporate data and 3) increasing device and policy management. I’ll talk more about this in depth on the next slide. We also looked at how customers want to use LOB applications. Windows Mobile 6 offers Higher performance for LOB applications New in-rom standard with SQL CE and .NETCF2. Because these two editions have not been standard for ROM, developers have been required to distribute or update devices to take advantage of latest capabilities. With the next version, these two will be in-ROM standards, building a higher standard for faster and easier mobile application development. New, improved Remote Desktop Mobile Client- replaces Terminal Services. Provides remote access to Windows personal computers and server products. RDM is designed to provide mobile information workers access to LOB applications and access to files. It allows IT Administrators to bounce a server and perform remote administration. RDM is designed to provide consumers with greater access to media. The features and benefits in RDM include easy setup, a universal viewer, wireless access, cut and paste, encryption and maximum security features, and the ability to work with LOB application development. 3) NEW MO business solution improvements: We’ve enhanced OMA device management and the portal experience so that new devices can meet the needs of the mobile operator business and anticipate new business opportunities. Optional feature: Windows Mobile Marketplace- it’s a store front for applications that can be purchased from your mobile device. The MO controls the content (working with distributor) and can design the marketplace to have the look and feel they want. Customers can easily purchase applications OTA. Billing is worked out between MO and distributor. Microsoft does NOT take cut. Increase ARPU value to MO. (*Top MO request) Open Mobile Alliance device management features: designed to improve the device management experience for IT Pros as well as to ensure new devices can meet the additional demands of MO business and new business opportunities. Support for OMA DM v1.2: server deploys firmware updates to Windows Mobile 6 device. The options that OEMs and MOs can set in the registry include whether the client will retry with v1.1 package after sending a v1.2 package, the number of times a retry is attempted, and the interval between retries. DMS configuration service provider: manages existing DM accounts OMA DM Client Connection Retry Microsoft is addressing top IT Pro requests for: New Device lock and PIN policies Storage Card encryption and wipe AES 128 and 256 implementation for SSL Wildcard CERT support PFX import New desktop and device cert enrollment tools Native rights management support Simplified administration, increased monitoring and control And top business requests: Storage card encryption Support for viewing rights and managed mail and documents © 2006 Microsoft Corporation.
