Did you Know? Mere participation in rigorous courses is not as valid a predictor of college success as performance on the AP exam. (Geyser and Santeleces, 2004) Students who took AP exams, regardless of their performance, are more likely to earn a B in their first year in college compared to students who did not take AP exam. (Wiilingham & Morris 1986) Students who took the AP Exam and scored a 1 or 2 were more likely to graduate than the “no AP” group. (Dougherty, Mellor and Jian, 2006) Students who took the AP exam but earned a score of 1 or 2 attended more selective colleges and were more likely to return for the sophomore year than the “no AP” group of students. (College Board Report 2009)
