Who was involved in the Civil War? The Civil War was fought between the Confederacy (Also known as the Confederate States Of America or as “The South”) and the Union (known as ‘The North”) The Confederacy were the 11 states that succeeded from the United States … » To keep the practice of slavery. » To make their own states rights and laws. The Union were the remaining 23 sates who stayed with the United States without slavery. Although with the exception of the five border states who may have kept slaves but stayed with the United States.

Weapons Rifles During the Civil War, the rifle was the most used weapon in the war. Most of the rifles during that time were loaded with a small lead ball and black powder. Most rifles at this time were muzzle loaded muskets. These rifles were used by both the Union and the Confederacy

Cannons The Howitzer- 12, 24, and 32 pound shots could be used. The Napoleon- 12 pound shot mainly. With a range from 250 – 1700 yards, cannons were very helpful to both armies. Especially the Napoleon for its light weight and portability it could be brought to the front lines with ease

Transportation Although most infantry traveled on foot, horses were used to move equipment and supplies. Some small groups of cavalry, mounted on horseback, were also used to attack in enemy territory. Horses

Transportation Railroads played a major role in moving troops and weapons. The Union corp. of engineers laid tracks and built bridges for the military trains. They delivered staple products like guns, ammo, and clothes.

Ships These were a main role in giving the Confederacy much needed goods They would use blockade runners to sneak past the Union.

End of Civil War The Union Became Victorious!! The final surrender of Confederate troops occurred June 23, 1865.

There are many ways it affected the U.S. like how it helped modernize the South. But Mainly it kept the U.S. from becoming two different countries. Also it paved the way for different states to be made…. It freed the slaves and increased the bond between blacks and whites. How did the Civil War affect America’s Future?
