3  California, Connecticut,, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Maine,, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Hampshire, New York, New Jersey, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rode Island, and Vermont  Their President was Abraham Lincoln

4  West Virginia  Kentucky  Missouri  Delaware  Maryland  These states had slavery but decided to not leave the Union

5  South Carolina, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Texas, Virginia, Arkansas, North Carolina, and Tennessee.  Their President was Jefferson Davis

6  Britain and France  The South needed alliances because they were an Agrarian Society; meaning they only supplied for their family so they didn’t have enough supplies to help them in the war.

7  April 12, 1861  Charleston, NC  Major Anderson was ordered by Lincoln the protect the fort  Brigadier Gen. Beauregard attacked  Anderson surrendered on April 14 th  The confederates took over the fort

8  Began July 21, 1862  Fought at the Occoquan River  Brigadier Gen. Irvin McDowell (Union) hoped to capture Confederates capital  Brigadier Gen. Beauregard and Colonel Jackson (Confederate) supplied their troops  Union retreated to Washington D.C  Casualties: Union- 2896 Confederates- 1982

9  July 1-3 1863  Gettysburg, Pennsylvania  Major Gen. George Meade(union)  Gen. Robert E. Lee(Confederate)  Casualties: Union-93,921 Confederate- 71,699  The first day the Confederates where doing well, but the third day the Union won with their outstanding rifle and artillery fire

13  Ships: U.S.S Monitor, C.S.S North Carolina  Horses: (Generals rode these mostly)  Wagons; used to carry supplies and injured soldiers

14 The Civil War helped us realize slavery is wrong and that just because we don’t agree on something doesn’t mean we should just give up and leave. I believe that even if the Civil War didn’t happen, we wouldn’t have slavery today. I think we would just be separate from them.
