HAPEX III / PVDIS Targets Dave Meekins

Target List Loops – LH2 25 cm – LD2 25 cm – 20 cm Spare Solid target – Dummy tgts of correct length – Optics tgt Multi foil – BeO, Ta, C, H2O (warm only)

Loop Status Motors – New motors have been assembled and tested. – Ready for installation. Instrumentation – New temperature readouts. – Switching from Oxford ITC 502 to Lakeshore. – Higher channel density in smaller package.

25 cm Cell Status CFR 851 required engineering complete waiting on review. Review requires a test of cell. “Improvements” have been made to the design. Flow modeling is underway (ANSYS CFX) 2 cells have been ordered – New vendor – Due mid month Blocks have been ordered – Material has longer lead times and has caused delay Remaining tasks prior to install – Complete fabrication of cells and blocks – Pressure test cells and complete pressure system safety requirements – Assemble loops

25 cm Cell All Ti Gr 5 hardware 17 mm Gap Al 7075 –T6

20 cm Cell We have one cell in fair condition. Making new one is possible but may not make schedule. Cell blocks are not in best of shape. Pressure test of these components is scheduled for end of next week. After that test needs will be assessed.

Solid Targets I have a list of requested targets from Oct A new request for optics target has been made. – Need exact details quickly Water cell will be installed for calibrations only – Pump status is not known – One solid target plus BeO is available. – Larger heat loads cannot be accommodated. Suggest hole targets for alignment

Dummy Hole Target

Refrigeration HAPEX III 25 cm LH2 Refrigeration supplied by ESR 15K Required flow will be high ~20 g/s Operators must exercise sound judgment when operation JT valves. PVDIS 25 cm LD2 Power requirement is 2 times higher Refrigeration supplied by CHL max calc avail 14 g/s We require about 14 g/s. This is going to be touchy. Extreme caution for JT ops is a must.

Summary There is no room for mistakes in the machine process. Plan on hand working the final beam entrance and exit windows Installation will be complete on time if we do not have problems. Refrigeration may become an issue for PVDIS Final decisions are needed on solid targets ASAP.
