Kid-nology Developmental Center Mission Statement Kid-nology Developmental Center wants to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. Kid-nology strives to provide services and access to meet the educational, informational and recreational needs of schools within Leon County to help create a 21st century learning environment. We at Kid-nology Developmental Center recognize the impact of technology.

Plan Justification The Kid-nology Developmental Center Board of Directors and staff recognizes the impact that technology has upon the lives of children. In order to continue to provide a high standard of public service, the Kid-nology Developmental Center offers computers as an educational tool and provides comprehensive computer skills. This comprehensive technology plan presents the current and planned technology necessary to deliver these enhanced services.

TECHNOLOGY STRATEGIC PLAN The technology strategy for the Kid-nology Developmental Center is to meet the following goals and objectives as outlined below. Each objective has a set of criteria established for the definition and measurement of successful implementation. GOALS: Children at all grade levels, K-12 will 1. Understand basic technology operations and concepts. 2. Use technology responsibly and ethically. 3. Use technology to communicate effectively and creatively. 4. Use technology for thinking, learning, and producing. 5. Use technology for research, problem solving, and decision-making.

Computer Inventory 50 workstations with the following configuration: Internet Various Computer Tutoring Software Microsoft Office dedicated public HP laser network printers 6 staff workstations 5 staff printers

Computer Software Microsoft Office 2007 Suite featuring MS Word, MS Powerpoint and MS Excel, etc. Corel Wordperfect 12.0 Adobe Reader 8 QuickTime Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0 Real Journeys in Technology Software utilizes: –Kid Pix Studio Deluxe, –Print Artist Gold, –Storybook Weaver Deluxe –Microsoft Office –Scholastic Keys software

FUTURE PLANNED & BUDGETED Upgrade 10 workstations in 2009, 6 in 2010 and 10 in Upgrade 3 staff workstations in 2009 and 3 in Upgrade all operating systems to minimum Windows 2007 Pro. The electrical system was reviewed by the Tallahassee Utilities in 1/07 and the system was upgraded to handle our current and planned expansions.

BUDGET (Kid-nology is sponsored by various vendors throughout Leon County) The Kid-nology Developmental Center approved the creation of a Technology Fund in This fund is used for all major hardware and software expenses. At the end of each year the Kid-nology Developmental Center places approximately 5% of its annual operating budget into the fund to be used for technology in the next year.

EVALUATION The Technology Coordinator will oversee performance of technology projects and will assess if equipment/software actually accomplishes the goals and objects set forth in the plan. The following evaluation process will be done annually: Replace equipment exceeding 5 years in age Review equipment/software use Review equipment/software costs The following minimum milestones are part of the plan: 25 computers a year receive training through a technology program. A minimum of 10 technology training opportunities are attended each year by members of the staff.
