Revision Quiz! Year 11 Physical Education

Mix up! Use the coloured cards you have been given and find your new group

Quiz Rules Each correct answer = 1 point (unless otherwise stated) First group with correct answer gets a bonus point The group that works the best, shows teamwork and contribution from all group members gets bonus 5 points

Quiz will cover: Physiological responses to exercise (short and long term) Anatomy (bones and muscles) Movements and joints Biomechanics including: Motion COG, LOG, BOS Force Levers Projectile motion Force summation

Question 1 When you exercise, changes happen to your body. Name 3 of those short term physiological responses

Answer Any 3 of the following will be accepted: Increase in heart rate Increase in breathing rate Sweating Increase in temperature Muscle soreness

Question 2 (worth 4 points) After regular exercise, your body adapts (changes). Name 2 long term responses that occur in your CARIOVASCULAR system. (2 points) For 1 of those changes, explain the benefits of this change (2 points)

Answer Any of the following answers acceptable: Decrease in resting heart rate Heart rate recovers faster Greater Stroke volume (blood pumped out per beat) Greater cardiac output (blood pumped out per minute) Increase in size of muscle wall of heart Benefit of most of these could be: You will be able to exercise for longer because your heart pumps blood out blood more efficiently to your body You can pump more blood out with each beat, therefore you can exercise longer as your maximum exercise HR will be reached later You will recover faster from exercise

Question 3 What muscle is being identified in the image below?

Answer Deltoid

Question 4 (2 points) If your bicep contracts, what movement would be caused at your ELBOW joint? What is the antagonist muscle in this movement?

Answer Flexion Tricep

Question 5 (worth 5 points) Imagine you are doing a free throw in basketball. DESCRIBE what movements occur in your shooting wrist and your shooting elbow from the start of the shot to the release of the basketball (follow through)

Answer Wrist – your wrist joint is in extension (as you prepare for shot) and moves into flexion as you release the basketball (during follow through motion) Elbow – your elbow joint is in flexion, and as you release the basketball your elbow extends

Question 6 When defending in basketball, being balanced is important. Name 3 ways you can become more stable?

Answer Lower your Centre of gravity Widen your base of support Keep your Line of gravity within your base of support

Question 7 (2 points) What is the main function of your heart?

Answer To pump blood around your body, which contains oxygen

Question 8 What is the main function of your lung?

Answer To supply body with oxygen To remove toxins including carbon dioxide

Question 9 (2.5 points) Name all of the movements that occur at a ball and socket joint (there are 5) Each correct answer worth ½ a point. You can only get bonus point for first group correct if you give all 5 answers

Answer Flexion Extension Adduction Abduction Rotation (internal and external)

Question 10 (worth 5 points) When you play basketball, two energy systems will be providing you with the energy to play. 1. Which energy system is used for exercise lasting longer than 90 seconds? (long distance running) 2. Which energy system is used for exercise lasting around seconds?

Answer 1. Aerobic 2. Anaerobic
