Interactive notebook Science readings Ongoing review Supper talks (or riding in the car talks) CLAIMING PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY IN SCIENCE CLASS

 Come to school/class with notebooks updated, homework completed, pencil ready, etc. Expect great learning and it will happen!  Students need to constantly be reviewing the vocabulary. They should make flash cards (index cards) that they made of words they had trouble with. Pull them out when you are waiting at the doctor’s office, in the car, etc. Vocabulary seems to be the most difficult obstacle to understanding concepts. Don’t just memorize the definitions, use them in sentences, conversations, etc.  Make connections to everyday life with the science content. It really is going on all around us. The weekly newsletters will let you know what we are doing in science. WHAT DO STUDENTS NEED TO DO TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR LEARNING IN SCIENCE CLASS? (HOW CAN THE ADULTS WHO LOVE THEM HELP?)

 Matter: Properties, Change, Transfer of Heat  Weather and Climate  Force and Motion  Cells, Body Systems, and Genetics  Ecosystems SCIENCE UNIT TOPICS

Mrs. Mize’s website has all vocabulary, assignments, and games. Mrs. Mize's website link WHERE CAN WE FIND RESOURCES?

 What does responsibility look like in math?  Come to class with homework completed, pencil, and math journal.  Ready to be an active part of the lesson.  Solve Real World Problems in everyday life. We use math everyday, whether we are adding, subtracting or problem solving.  Look for updates in the weekly newsletters for what we are doing in math.  Resources for Understanding Math  go to the area we are studying and there are videos connected to that skill. MATH

What does responsibility look like in Language Arts class? - Come to class prepared with completed homework, binder, paper, and pencil. - “Thinking Caps” are on and you are ready to participate in class! - Be sure to have a self-selected novel (or other reading material) with you at all times!! This is one of the most important things that you can do for yourself as a reader! - Have conversations daily about what literature you are reading. (In ELA class an on your own!) - Check our weekly newsletter for curriculum updates for Language Arts. READING AND WRITING

Students have completed their first focus lesson specifically having a global focus about North America. They worked in teams to discover why European languages are spoken in North American countries. They also matched flags and “Hello”, “Hola”, “Hej”, and “Bonjour” with the appropriate countries. Each student team was able to find at least one reason why explorers’ languages became the most often spoken language in parts of these countries, which is a great segue between pre-Columbian Native Americans and the Age of Discovery/Exploration. WE’VE GONE GLOBAL!
