3 Review of Planning Status - CASE 2012 Overview Two and a half day event starting Tuesday afternoon Sep 2012, Sheraton Pasadena Same registration fee as SPACE - access to both events 3 concurrent tracks (15 sessions, estimated 115 presentations):  Track 1: Complex Systems Development  Track 2: Integration, Test, and Verification of Complex Systems  Track 3: Program Management to achieve Robust and Resilient Systems 1 plenary (Wednesday); shared plenary with SPACE (Tuesday AM) Panel sessions

4 Potential Peripheral Activities  Seminar prior to the event organized by the Management Technical Committee with Mike Griffin and leaders of the community we are trying to attract to discuss the event (locate it at a resort?)  Chief Engineer Summit or Roundtable as an exclusive part of the event to serve this community and provide them a forum (no-attribution discussion)  Program Manager Roundtable as part of the event

5 Potential Follow On Activities  Teleconferences or webinars after the event to maintain momentum and shape CASE 2013  Evolving event to include courses or workshops addressing systems-related topics and challenges

6 Session Model (continued) CONOPS  Paper sessions will have a panel element, based on the AMT/GT model  The last 60 minutes of each session is used for the presenters in that session to form a panel and delve into the session topic(s) Wrap-up session  Conference organizers present the main themes and lessons learned  Work with sessions chairs for input, in addition to attending the sessions to get the needed input

9 Proposed Session Chair Expectations Session Chairs are expected to: Work with the Track Chair in developing the Theme and Content for the Session Identify and recruit appropriate invited speakers/panel members Have ownership for the content and quality of their session to ensure that it:  Supports the Event and Track Objectives  Serves the interests of the targeted Audience (CEs, SEs, PMs, Designers, TEs, etc.) by providing practical ideas, methods, capabilities, etc. that they can apply immediately to their own programs  Is oriented to the direct Execution of Complex Systems Development (not theoretical, not a study)

10 Proposed Session Chair Expectations (Continued 2 of 4) Session Chairs are expected to: Have direct engagement with the presenters/authors by:  Conveying the intent for session content (see previous bullet)  Reviewing outlines/plans for presentations/panel session –To fit content expectations and time allocated  Working with the presenters to shape their material for the Session  Maintaining contact with presenters up through the CASE Event to ensure that they and their material are ready to go (No late withdrawals or no-shows)  Builds in flexibility to their session Immediately identify any issues or concerns to Track Chairs Meet with presenters on the morning of the Session – need to figure this out (Jeff will help) Incite audience participation/panel discussion with prepared questions

11 Proposed Session Chair Expectations (Continued 3 of 4) Session Chairs are expected to: Record key observations from the session:  Outrageous Comments (for recognition at Wrap-Up Plenary?) Common themes  Best Practices  Lessons Learned  Systemic Issues and limitations of current tools and techniques  New insights, capabilities, or methods  Unresolved issues or obstacles – opportunities for further work  Areas of conflict or disagreement  Surprises or unexpected results  Level of audience engagement  Number of attendees  Anything else of special interest

12 Proposed Session Chair Expectations (Continued 4 of 4) Session Chairs are expected to: Provide and discuss observations with Track Chair by the end of the day Participate in CASE Wrap-Up Session Provide feedback and recommendations for CASE 2013 to Track Chair  Suggestions to help shape next CASE Event Participate in editing of CASE Event documentation
