PRESENTED BY CRISTI MILLARD RMASFAA 2011 MISSOULA, MONTANA The Power of Nice

WHAT IS THE POWER OF NICE?

Nice... Is not naïve Is luckier in love Makes more money Is healthier Spends less time in court! Doesn’t mean sacrificing what you want for someone else. There’s always a 2 nd, 3 rd, or even 4 th solution when you apply the principles of nice.

The Six Power of Nice Principles Positive impressions are like seeds. You never know. People change. Nice must be automatic. Negative impressions are like germs. You will know!

NICE CUBE

BAKE A BIGGER PIE

Help others get their slice

Pool your resources

Spread the wealth

Share the Credit! “It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit!”

NICE CUBE

SWEETEN THE DEAL

Let ‘em eat cake!

Tickle their funny bone: Research shows that leaders who are considered outstanding tended to make 3 times more witty remarks than executives with average ratings.

Spread the Sugar! We can’t get more if we don’t give out what we have!

Flash a Smile! Positive emotions are more contagious than negative ones.

Offer gifts or compliments I couldn’t work with a better group of people. Thanks for helping out today – I can always count on you. I am so impressed! You worked with that angry student without letting him get to you. Well done! What a great attitude!

NICE CUBE

HELP YOUR ENEMIES

Why cooperation beats out the competition.

Compliment the competition.

Treat today’s adversaries like tomorrow’s allies.

Make friends – Before they can become enemies!

Bring the enemy over to your side

Come in Peace!

NICE CUBE

TELL THE TRUTH

Hear No Evil See No Evil Speak No Evil

Take Down Your Game Face

Faking it doesn’t make it!

Fine tune your instincts

Start with the good stuff!

Help them to find the truth themselves.

Find the strength in the weakness.

The truth doesn’t always hurt.

Don’t be afraid to set boundaries.

NICE CUBE

“YES” YOUR WAY TO THE TOP

Being positive has a huge impact on your relationships.

Assume Yes

Express the Yes

Get off the “NO” train!

Four Ways to Say “Yes” Instead of “No” Yes, I want to help. Yes, you can do better. Yes, I see you. Yes, your talents lie elsewhere.

NICE CUBE

SHUT UP AND LISTEN!

Let the other guy (or girl) be smarter.

Keep It Simple!

Ask. Don’t tell!

Don’t argue so much.

Everyone is worth a listen.

NICE CUBE

PUT YOUR HEAD ON THEIR SHOULDERS

Harness the Power of Empathy

Whistle while you work!

Get out of your movie!

Listen for the feeling words!

See yourself in their eyes.
