Pearson in Practice Public Relations Level 4 Higher Apprenticeship

2 Pearson in Practice – Public Relations Higher Apprenticeship What the apprenticeship covers and its benefits BTEC Level 4 Diploma in Public Relations – combined knowledge and competence qualification; embedded ERR and PLTs Developed by employers to cover a range of PR entry level roles and sectors from public affairs, in house, agency positions Increases diversity into industry – reflecting consumers Enabled development of non-graduate career pathway Addresses employers concerns about lack of work skills in graduates and allows employers to participate in training Endorsed by wide range of large companies and SME PR agencies

3 Pearson in Practice – Public Relations Higher Apprenticeship Who is it aimed at – entry level job roles Press Officers PR Assistants, Junior PR Executives Who is it aimed at – sectors In house PR PR and Integrated Comms Agencies SME and Large employers

4 Pearson in Practice – Public Relations Higher Apprenticeship Alignment to professional qualifications and bodies No previous apprenticeship framework for the Public Relations sector Based on PRCA Foundation certificate but developed into new qualification by employers PRCA endorsed and involved in delivery All Pearson in Practice apprentices will have PRCA student membership

5 Pearson in Practice – Public Relations Higher Apprenticeship Entry requirements – No formal set criteria Good communication skills Creative skills Social media skills Writing skills – creativity, spelling, proof reading General knowledge awareness – media, social media Individual criteria set by employers but in general they are looking for the skills above with different requirements depending on the size of agency or specific job role. Majority of employers recruiting Level 3 learners with demonstrably good written and spoken English, plus Level 2 ICT and Maths

6 Pearson in Practice – Public Relations Higher Apprenticeship Length of programme Minimum 12 months 12 to 18 months average depending on the choice of optional units, needs of the learner and employer

7 Pearson in Practice – Public Relations Higher Apprenticeship Delivery methods Off the job and on the job training – with dedicated mentor, range of specialist tutors and assessors A) Off the job - 2 week block at training centre followed by day release programme – involving mix of workshops, taught sessions, visits to PR agencies, guest speakers, webinars, virtual learning environment access OR B) Off the job – currently developing a remote learning option to meet the needs of UK wide employers – same mix of delivery but option for taught sessions to be taught via internet with 4 workshops a year for group activities
