Lab Procedures Be sure to follow these for every lab.

Food labs:  Before lab: Put your hair back, read the recipe, preheat oven, if necessary, and wash your hands.  Pay attention to all notes given before the lab – questions during the lab will cost you points. Independence/Teamwork is crucial.  During lab: Work together – everyone helps and checks each other BEFORE mistakes are made.  BEFORE EATING: Present food to teacher on plates for grading – failure to do so earns a grade of ZERO.  No eating off paper towels.  End of lab: CLEAN EVERYTHING and put it away. Put drying towels in the washer – if lid is up.

Before the lab:  READ the recipe – everyone!!  You are all responsible for the turnout  Preheat the oven  It takes longer than it says  Put your hair back, if necessary  WASH YOUR HANDS  You may have to do this a lot  Hand lotion is available

During the lab:  READ the recipe – everyone!!  You are all responsible for the turnout  Decide on your jobs for the day, it has to be different than the previous lab(s)  Only one person gets ingredients – no switching after you start  Get equipment ready before you go to the table  Take your tray and get the measuring equipment you need  Measure everything from left to right  If you go out of order, you might miss something  Get everything the first time  Don’t run back and forth to your kitchen, you usually mess up

During the lab:  RE-READ the recipe – everyone!!  You are all responsible for the turnout  Make sure you have everything before you start mixing  Don’t put things together at the front table  Some things have to be alternated, not added all at once.  Start the Post Lab assignment  Work is due by the end of the block, MUST how for credit  Present the food on the platter  Food must be presented for grading BEFORE you eat  Eat on real plates, unless allowed by teacher

After the lab:  Complete the post lab assignment  Show for credit, part of class participation grade  It takes longer than you think – start during lab  Must show teacher before end of block for credit  Make sure you have everything cleaned up before you put towels in the washer (and only if lid is up)  Don’t put things away wet, make sure it’s dry  Check your presentation space on the front table  Remember who is on table clean up – it rotates  Wait to be dismissed – not necessarily the bell  Do not just leave, if you are not finished, stay and clean/eat  If you leave and shouldn’t have - ZERO  Donate any extras  If you have extra, we donate it to the BCHG food pantry – if it hasn’t touched your mouth/fork  Bag/Tag for the food pantry  Check with teacher first
