EU's DEVELOMENT COOPERATION WITH LATIN AMERICA Development Cooperation Instrument (DCI) – Total amount for LA ar M € Main objectives: Poverty eradication Development, especially social cohesion and the fight against inequalities, good governance and democracy, sustainable development and regional integration

Main frameworks of work 1. Bilateral cooperation – M € These funds are spent in fields that are defined jointly by the government of a third country and the EU. 2. Regional cooperation – 805 M € Regional cooperation programmes target fields that are considered of interest to the whole region, such as security, climate change etc.

Main frameworks of work 3. Thematic cooperation "Non programmable aid" They include programmes under the DCI and other instruments (f.i. EIDHR) tackling worldwide problems and universal issues in sectors like human rights, environment, civil society, food security and migration and asylum.

A huge and very transparent market!...but also very competitive. 8

How can the EU's private sector participate in programmes financed by EUROPEAID? Companies in the first place by: Taking part in tenders for service, work or supply contracts published in the framework of EU-financed development programmes and projects. Business Intermediary Organisations like chambers, business associations or export promotion agencies by: Seeking grants in the framework of Calls for proposals tailored to these actors. Main difference: tenders for service, supply or work contracts are normal business contracts whereas grants have a clear non- profit orientation. 9

How to participate: Example grants 16 AL-INVEST 5.0: Inclusive Growth for Social Cohesion in Latin America Latina The programme AL Invest aims to improve the productivity of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in Latin America. Focused MSMEs to reduce the productivity gap between those companies already active in international trade and the huge rest.

How to participate: Example grants 17 AL-INVEST 5.0: Inclusive Growth for Social Cohesion in Latin America Latina It provides grants to European and Latin American (i) Business intermediary organisations representing Micro, Small and Medium- sized Enterprises. This includes chambers of commerce, sector-specific trade, industrial and professional associations, cooperatives, regulatory bodies and agencies promoting trade, investment and commercial activities as well as sector-based agencies concerned with working with SMEs or

Especially if you have no prior experience, try to start by being a junior partner in a consortium led by a strong and experienced company with a good track record.
