1Introduction William Shakespeare ( ).English poet and playwright wrote the famous 154 sonnets numerous highly successful oft quoted dramatic works including the tragedy of the Prince of Denmark, Hamlet etc… 2 STRUCTURE THE WORK One of this works is Anthony and Cleopatra formed by five acts: The first; five scenes, the second; seven scenes, the third; thirteen scenes,the fourth; fifteen scenes and fifth; two scenes. And this work this cradle in a medieval tragedy.

3 Personages 1 Anthony: She is the lover of Cleopatra. 2 Cleopatra: She is the queen of Egypt and lover of Anthony. 3 Octavius Caesar:He is adopted son of Julius Caesar. 4 Julius Caesar: Great - uncle and father adoptive Octavius Caesar and imperator of Roma. 5 Augustus Caesar:He is son of Julius Caesar. 6 Lepidus: The third imperator along with Caesar and Anthony. 7 Fluvia: Wife of Anthony at the beginning of the work. 8 Enobarbus: Main soldier of Anthony. 9 Eros: Follower of Anthony in all its battles. 10 Octavia: Sister of Caesar.

4Argument Anthony and Lepidus form the Roman triunvirate that rules the Western world. Caesar and Anthony are left to rule the world. Anthony live in Alexandria Egypt with his mistress Cleopatra, the queen of Egypt. Caesar calls Anthony home to Rome. Anthony agrees. Once in Rome, Caesar and Anthony try to make amends through the marriage of Anthony to Caesar is sister Octavia.

4 Anthony soon deserts Octavia, howeber, and returns to live with Cleopatra. Caesar, enraged, vows to attack and reagain control of Egypt from Anthony and Cleopatra. Caesar is army is more powerful and more skillful, and soon approaches defeat of Anthony. Enobarbus, Anthony is best friend, deserts him and joins Caesar is army.

4 Howeber, Enobarbus become overcome with regret and remorse for leaving Anthony and kills himself near Caesar is headquarters. Anthony, facing defeat, asks Eros to kill him. Eros cannot, and instead kills himself. Anthony then kills. Cleopatra in grief over Anthony determined is suicide by allowing asps to bite her.

4 Cleopatra is main attendant (Charmian) dies in the same manner, while her second attendant(Iras) dies from stress and grief over Cleopatra is death.
