FOUNDING POPE PAUL III FOUNDED THE COUNCIL OF TRENT IN ORIGINALLY, MEMBERS OF THE CHURCH MET IN TRENT TO DISCUSS THE RISE OF PROTESTANTISM. THE COUNCIL OF TRENT WAS FIRST CALLED IN TO REVIEW CHURCH DOCTRINES THE COUNCIL MET ON AND OFF UNTIL 1563 IN TRENO, ITALY.

PURPOSE MEMBERS OF THE COUNCIL’S MAIN PURPOSE WAS TO STUDY THE COMPLAINTS MADE BY THE PROTESTANTS ABOUT THE CATHOLIC CHURCH SUCH AS INDULGENCES RESULTS OF THE COUNCIL: EMPHASIS IMPORTANT TEACHINGS AND TO MAKE SIMPLER THE COUNCIL DIRECTED THEIR ATTENTION TO THE CRITICISMS OF THE CHURCH. REFORMS TOOK PLACE BECAUSE OF THE CORRUPTION IN THE CHURCH.

COMPLAINTS MOST OF THE REFORM HAPPENED MOSTLY BECAUSE OF FINANCIAL CORRUPTION AND ABUSE OF POWER. PROTESTANT COMPLAINTS: HEAVY TAXES SALES OF INDULGENCES TO BUILD SAINT PETER’S BASILICA IN ROME INDULGENCES WERE PARDONS FROM SIN, TO REDUCE A SOUL’S TIME IN PURGATORY. THIS RESULTED IN THE WEAKENING OF THE CHURCH AND THE POPE.

BELIEFS THE COUNCIL OF TRENT DIDN’T APPROVE OF THE PROTESTANTS, BUT THEY DID PUT AN END TO CHURCH ABUSES SUCH AS INDULGENCES. BELIEFS: SELF-DISCIPLINE INDIVIDUAL FAITH THEY BELIEVED THEY COULD INSPIRE FAITH BY SUPPORTING RELIGIOUS CEREMONIES. THIS WORKED FOR MOST CATHOLICS.

RENEWED INTEREST IN THE CATHOLIC CHURCH NO COMPROMISE BETWEEN CATHOLICISM AND PROTESTANTISM. THE COUNCIL CREATED A RENEWED INTEREST IN CATHOLICISM. BECAUSE OF THE RENEWED CONFIDENCE IN THE CHURCH IT STARTED TO EXPAND. THE COUNCIL DECIDED THAT EACH SECTION OF THE CHURCH OR DIOCESES, NEEDED A SEMINARY OR THEOLOGY SCHOOLS BY 1700, SCHOOLS AND COLLEGES WERE ESTABLISHED MAKING MORE PEOPLE EDUCATED

. CHARLES BORROMEO IN ORDER TO REFORM CATHOLICS, THE COUNCIL HAD LOTS OF HELP TO CARRY OUT THEIR REFORMS. CHARLES BORROMEO: THE ARCHBISHOP OF MILAN HE PUT THE REFORMS INTO ACTION BY BUILDING A NEW SCHOOL FOR THE EDUCATION OF PRIESTS.

FRANCIS OF SALES MOST OF FRANCE WERE CALVINIST WHILE TRYING TO REGAIN SAVOY, FRANCIS OF SALES WORKED ON HIS MISSIONARY WORK. AS A RESULT OF, MOST PEOPLE RETURNED TO THE CATHOLIC CHURCH. BELIEVED THAT WOMEN SHOULD BE EDUCATED.
