Let’s Review the Basics… Creating a New PowerPoint Presentation Adding New Slides Adding Text and Graphics Viewing and Saving Your Presentation

Effective Presentation Design Guidelines Readability Visual Clarity Consistency

Readability Keep your words large enough---at least size 24. Limit the number of words on a page: Avoid paragraphs Use bullet points Use succinct phrases instead of sentences Limit each slide to six bullet points

Visual Clarity Limit your graphics to 1-3 per page. Too many graphics can be distracting. Slides are designed to supplement your presentation, not to be your presentation. Basic rule of presentations Avoid unnecessary “bells and whistles”

Consistency Fill out a storyboard before you begin to put your presentation together. It will help you stay organized, and things will get done faster. Proofread and spell check!

Examples Let’s discuss some examples…

Working with Text Moving Text Boxes Moving Text within a Text Box Formatting Text Boxes Copying Formatting Attributes AutoCorrecting Text Correcting Style Inconsistencies

Working with Graphics Modifying AutoShapes Using Flowcharting AutoShapes Positioning Graphical Objects Working with the Stack Order of Graphical Objects
