Welcome to Fourth Grade!!

Snacks Healthy snacks- fruit, vegetables, crackers. Please note if your class is nut free.

Field Trips Fall Field Trips: Aquarena Springs Spring Field Trips: Capitol & Visitors Center, Institute of Texan Cultures and Alamo End of the Year Party: TBA Chaperones are needed for all field trips. If you are able to supervise a small group of children and stay with us ALL DAY, please consider volunteering to chaperone. Please allow all parents to have the opportunity to chaperone field trips.

4 th Grade Expectations Students are responsible for using correct spelling across curriculum. Students will write in complete sentences, beginning each sentence with a capital letter and ending with punctuation. Students will know all multiplication, addition, and subtraction facts; division facts should be continuously worked on towards mastery. Students will add and subtract whole numbers.

4th Grade Homework Policy Homework is assigned nightly. Monday and Wednesday are math nights Tuesday and Thursday are Language Arts nights The Eanes Elementary homework policy states that 4th graders should be receiving no more than 40 minutes of homework nightly. Homework is considered late if it is not at school at the start of the day.

Got Work? Got Work? Students are expected to turn late work in as soon as it is finished. All missing work is expected to be completed and turned in by the end of the grading period.

Tests All students will be allowed to correct and return a test for up to 90%(excludes spelling tests and district benchmarks). Graded tests will go home on Thursdays. If a student elects to correct a test, they will be required to make corrections and return it by Monday.

Reading DEAR time Guided Reading/Literature circles allow for differentiation Reading aloud to your child and reading with them will reinforce their love of books. STAAR Reading Tuesday, May 10. Please note: Please have the students reading at least 20 minutes every night for pleasure.

Spelling/Vocabulary Spelling/vocabulary will be taught in context through flocabulary.com Students will need to learn the spelling and meaning of the words Tests will be every other Friday Various activities will be done in class for practice

Writing Writing is a major focus in fourth grade. Students will be introduced to models of good writing and given opportunities to practice. Students will be taken through the writing process, from pre-writing, brainstorming, to a final product. Writing STAAR test is Tuesday, March 29 and Wednesday March 30.

Writing (continued) Students’ writing will include using many different kinds of elaboration as well as humor! They will be encouraged to write in their own voice, to express their feelings, and to write from the heart!

Social Studies Geography of Texas History of Texas Texas Weekly newspaper The fourth grade Social Studies curriculum is the history of TEXAS! How lucky we are to live in Austin where we have a multitude of places to visit and people to meet.

National Geographic National Geographic “National Geographic” received weekly. Reinforces Reading skills. Discusses topics in Science and Social Studies.
