Eat the cheapest part of an animal e.g. chicken feet Parents go without meals so that their children can eat Add other materials to food e.g. grass or soil to food to bulk them out Search for wild foods, or hunt animals if possible (bush meat) Scavenge for food Steal food – send children out to do this

Beg for money Take a job that would never normally be taken in order to earn money for food Move the family to a new location where food was apparently easier to come by. Queue patiently in the hope of charity handouts or other forms of food aid. Use local knowledge to search for wild foods e.g. Roots, berries, grubs Eat food that has already been condemned as unsuitable for consumption or has been dumped
