Antifreeze, what’s it used for? Cooling engines in automobiles Preventing water freezing in automobiles

Is antifreeze dangerous? It can dangerous if ingested Can irritate skin with long term exposure Can irritate nasal passages if inhaled Can irritate eyes if splashed

Antifreeze, what’s in it? Ethylene Glycol (Hazardous Ingredient) Diethylene Glycol Additives, Inhibitors Dye Water

Ethylene Glycol Irritant Slight health hazard Inhalation, Skin, Ingest, Eyes Target organs: Kidneys, Liver May cause minimal irritation, experienced as temporary discomfort

If accidentally ingested: Lethal dose for adult: 4 ounces Immediately contact physician, poison control center, or emergency treatment Do NOT induce vomiting Product may be inhaled into lungs if vomited

How to handle antifreeze safely Keep a clean work area Wear proper protective clothing Gloves, safety glasses, etc. If antifreeze contacts your skin, simply wash it off immediately, you should be fine Don’t wear contaminated clothing until properly washed

Disposal of old antifreeze Not all antifreezes are bio-degradable Carefully pour old antifreeze into sealable container Take to local service station for disposal Most old antifreeze can be recycled!
