Material Safety Data Sheet

The Material Safety Data Sheet provides the important information on every chemical you use this year. This information includes the safety procedures, the physical and chemical properties, and the dangers associated with the chemical.

Everyday products inside AND outside the home... Everyday products inside AND outside the home...... have MSDS information on the chemicals they contain! http://hpd.nlm.nih.gov/index.htm

The purpose of this presentation is to examine the parts of the MSDS.

Effects of Overexposure Emergency and First Aid Procedures May be harmful by ingestion. May cause irritation. To the best of our knowledge, the chemical, physical and toxicological properties have not been thoroughly investigated. Specific data is not available. Exercise appropriate procedures to minimize potential hazards. Section VHealth Hazard Data Ingestion: If swallowed, if conscious, give one or two glasses of water to drink. Call physician immediately. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Skin: Flush with water, then wash with mild soap and water. Eyes: Flush thoroughly with water for at least 15 minutes lifting lower and upper eyelids occasionally. Get medical attention. Inhalation as Mist: Remove to fresh air. If illness or discomfort develops, get medical attention.

Steps to be taken in case materials are released or spilled. Section VIISpill and Leak Procedure Discharge, treatment, or disposal may be subject to Federal, State or Local laws. These disposal guidelines are intended for the disposal of catalog-size quantities only. Dispose of in an approved incinerator or contract with a licensed chemical waste disposal agency Waste Disposal Method Absorb in vermiculite. Scoop up and place in a suitable container. Wash spill area with soap and water. Section VIReactivity Data Incompatibility Strong Oxidizers Stability Stable X Unstable Conditions to Avoid: Protect from light, excessive temperature and heat.

Section VIIISpecial Protection Information Respiration Protection (Specify Type) Good ventilation should be sufficient. Local ExhaustNot requiredSpecialNo Ventilation MechanicalNot requiredOtherNo Protective Gloves Rubber Eye Protection Chemical Safety glasses Other Protective Equipment Goggles, smock, apron, proper gloves, eye wash station. Section IXSpecial Precautions Precautions to be Taken in Handling & Shipping Store in a cool, dry place and protect from light. Wash thoroughly after handling. Keep container tightly closed when not in use. Other Precautions Read label on container before using. Do not wear contact lenses when working with chemicals. Remove and wash contaminated clothing.

This is the National Fire protection code. It shows the degree of hazard of the chemical. Flammability Health Hazard Reactivity Hazard Special Warnings

Emergency hazards are signaled on a numerical scale of 0 to 4: 0 = no hazard 1 = minor hazard 2 = moderate hazard 3 = severe hazard 4 = extreme hazard

What are the hazards associated with this chemical? Doesn’t react to water
