2. The #1 priority of schools must be to return the student home in good health. The best way to insure that is to know and follow the safety rules

6. Rule #4: Wear Eye Protection in lab, or when working with power equipment or when an eye hazard may exist. Note: a) eye injuries are serious. b) If anything gets into your eye, DO NOT RUB THE EYE. Flush with water and alert the teacher. c) Avoid use of contact lenses when working with chemicals. They may concentrate the fumes against the eye causing damage.

9. Rule #7: Report to the teacher any student who is violating a safety rule. NOTE: a) that student may need the teacher’s help learning a rule; b) if you don’t report them, how can they ever learn to do things right? c) by not reporting a safety hazard, you are saying you do not care about your own and others’ safety and health.

10. Rule #8: Wear appropriate safety clothing - lab coat, apron, gloves, closed toed shoes, eye protection, hearing protection, etc. NOTE: you must furnish your own closed toe shoes

11. Rule #9: Loose fitting clothes, long hair, necklaces and bracelets may knock over materials, drag in liquids or get caught in machines. Fasten them securely or remove to prevent injury.

12. Rule #10: Watch for sharp objects, including broken glass

16. Rule #14: After lab work, always wash your hands
Rule #14: After lab work, always wash your hands. NOTE: Never touch your food, drink, cosmetics, your skin, hair or eyes until after you have washed your hands.

17. Rule #15: Never eat any plant part, seed or fruit in a lab or outside unless an adult tells you it is safe to do so. NOTE: a) many plants are poisonous. b) Many plants can injure you due to thorns, spines or irritating oils.
