CORE CLASS PLACEMENT Many students will continue on their current placement track, however some movement will happen. Standard and Foundations Ability grouping within Standard and F levels. Language Arts – Rubric placement for Honors Level and Standard Plus Points for grade in current class, EOG score, MAP score, and teacher recommendation (based on work completion and test average). Standard and Foundations Ability grouping within Standard and F levels.

SCIENCE AND SOCIAL STUDIES Science and Social Studies classes are A/B day and are heterogeneously grouped in each period. Teachers differentiate instruction and assessments within classes

THOUGHTS ON MATH I (formerly Algebra) MATH I PLACEMENT Rubric placement process Algebra is a HIGH SCHOOL CREDIT! It goes on your permanent record (that colleges will see!) If you pass (D is passing!), you cannot re-take the class in high school. Taking Math I in 8 th grade points students towards a college level math class in 12 th grade (such as AP Calculus or AP Statistics or the IB equivalent). IF I DON’T TAKE MATH I… Math progression for students who take 8 th grade Standard or Standard Plus math: 9 th grade: Math I 10 th grade: Math II (H) 11 th grade: Math III (H) 12 th grade: AFM/ Pre-Calc (H) This IS a college prep track! You don’t need to “double up” in high school to be college ready, but doubling up is a possibility.

ACADEMIC ENRICHMENT All students will be placed in either Academic Enrichment or Academic Recovery based on academic achievement data, which will be periodically reviewed during the year.
