French Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Energy A Strategic session at TRA Promoting health and environmental concerns while talking about urban mobility

10 3 – The driving idea  A Joint Strategic Seminar among the three organisations (ITF, TRA and THE-PEP) is proposed, to bridge the gap between the scientific, research and innovation community on the one hand, and strategies, measures and programmes of urban policymakers and planners on the other hand, while showcasing how transport needs are safeguarded while taking into account health and environmental concerns.  Participants in the Seminar will discuss the challenges and opportunities of applying scientific and evidence- based research and policy instruments to meet the transport and mobility needs of large urban agglomerations and to embrace the notion of urban liveability as well as green and health-friendly patterns of work and livelihood.

11 3 – Proposed thematic points  New Mobility Needs: active mobility such as walking and cycling, use of inland (urban) waterways for people and cargo, multimodal hubs, accessibility for vulnerable groups, e.g. elderly, poor, children, and people with reduced mobility; How do we share space? And what are the innovative technologies to facilitate this?  New Urbanism: more compact and dense cities, focus on urban spatial planning and the links between housing, zoning, transport and energy efficiency. The New Urbanism is linked to the dream of youth: how do they want to live in the cities of the future?  New Links: policies and measures that support a seamless journey between active mobility and public transport which is safe, clean, accessible, affordable and attractive

12 3 – Proposed strategic session  1 theme : Urban Innovation and Change: The dynamic nexus of Transport, Environment and Health  1 moderator : José Viegas, SG of the International Transport Forum inside the OECD system (to be confirmed)  1 keynote speaker : Minister of Environment from a member state (to be confirmed)  4 expected panellists (to be confirmed) : – Youth leader from WHO young journalists – Representative of Urban and Spatial Planning Ministry or private enterprise, e.g. Gehl Architects – Counsellor of the city of London for transport health and environment (Polis) – Mayor or representative of a French great city
