3 Majority of citizens walk or cycle but poor quality NMT infrastructure THE PROBLEM ACCESSABILITY Lack of access means lack of social cohesion and access to basic services. Improved access to safe, reliable and affordable mobility - improves livelihoods. ENVIRONMENT Road transport accounts for 19% of global CO2 emissions. Cities with a better modal mix between cars, public transport, walking and cycling have lower energy use per capita. ROAD SAFETY By 2020 road accidents will kill or disable more people than war, tuberculosis, and HIV combined. Segregated infrastructure saves lives.
