Social Studies Mission Statement The mission of the social studies department is to teach students to understand and engage the world that they live in by providing them the tools to critically think, analyze evidence, and formulate conclusions thereby creating an informed citizenry and fostering democratic participation.

My Philosophy All kids can achieve High yet reasonable expectations Everyone has a different way of learning Structure and routine as a foundation Model positive behavior Increase social capital Use SS as a tool to enrich learning Prepare for future – whatever the future may be

Assessment Raw Percentage Ex 50 point assessment with 25 wrong score will be a 50% Ex. 100 point assessment with 17 wrong score will be an 83%

Assignments Classwork and homework will be scored on a 3 point proficiency scale. 3/3 will indicate proficient or 100% or the points 2/3 will indicate partial proficiency or 75% of the points 1/3 will indicate incomplete or not proficient of 50% points 0/3 will indicate missing

DBQ (Assessments) DBQs or document based questions will be graded on a 4 point proficiency scale. 4/4 will indicate highly proficient or 100% of the points 3/4 will indicate proficient or 90% of the points 2/4 will indicate partial proficiency or 75% of the points 1/4 will indicate limited proficiency or 60% of the points 0/4 will indicate missing
