3 Course outline Students will trace the development of human society from its origin through the Renaissance Era. Students will explore patterns of change and continuity by focusing on the expansion of and the decline of civilizations, patterns of geography, and development of political, economic, and societal systems. Students will analyze and evaluate how foundations of society influence the modern era.

4 Synopsis of 6th grade world history
This class will survey topics in world history through the Renaissance. Unit 1: Introduction to Social Studies & Geography Unit 2: Early Humans Unit 3: Early River Civilizations Unit 4: Classic Civilizations Unit 5: World Religions Unit 6: Middle Ages to Renaissance

5 Synopsis of my class This class will survey topics in world history through the Renaissance. Every student in my class can EARN an A or B provided that they come to class prepared, pay attention, behave appropriately, do their work on time, & study.

6 Keys to success in this class
Students that perform well in World History share the following traits: Come to class prepared. Follow directions. Display proper behavior. Turn in work on time. Take good notes and study. Follow all classroom and school rules.

7 Questions I will answer in my directions
Do we have to finish this for homework? Do we have homework tonight? Can we work with a partner? Is the test multiple choice? How many questions are on the test? What's my grade in this class? Is this for a grade? What do we do when we're done?

8 Classroom rules Respect all members of our class.
Come to class prepared. Use the bathroom & get water before class. Remain in your seat unless you have permission to get up. No food or drink. Water Bottles are ok Have appropriate interactions in class. Use appropriate language No blurting out in class No what ifs….. Follow all directions!

9 Expectations for work 1. Assignments should be completed and turned in on time. 2. All written work is to be in complete sentences with correct capitalization and punctuation. 3. All assignments, both in class and for homework, will have an assigned page in the student’s interactive notebook - make sure every assignment is taped in where appropriate.

4. All work should be neatly handwritten in blue or black ink or in pencil. Work may also be typed and printed when the teacher gives permission for this. Assignments will not be accepted via . 5. All work should be neat in appearance and done on a full sheet of loose leaf notebook paper: NO torn edges, NO rumpled papers, NO necessary marks or doodles on paper, no globs of white out to make corrections (use one line for mark outs).

11 My website Social Studies will utilize teacher websites as a supplement to classroom instruction. Websites will be updated frequently to reflect activities completed in class. Websites can be accessed through Jay M. Robison’s webpage and also provide a link to teacher . Students and parents will be able to access a HW calendar, notebook pages, and some classroom activities, along with announcements and important links through the website.

12 homework You will be attending social students every other day. Homework will be given to enhance the curriculum and improve study habits. Some homework assignments may be due the next social students period, others may be due several classes later.

13 Late/missing homework
If you fail to complete a homework assignment on time, you will not receive credit until it is turned in. It becomes your responsibility to show the teacher all late completed homework. When homework is turned in late, the highest you can earn is a 70.

14 Tutoring I am available Tuesday mornings before school by appointment.
Tutoring Time: 7:15-7:45 AM

15 attendance Our time together is valuable; meeting every other day and getting through over half of the World’s History! You are expected to come to class prepared with your materials & assignments. If you miss class, you are responsible for getting the work you missed. Missing class does not excuse you from turning in work that was assigned while you were present.

16 Grading policy Grades will be determined by the following percentages:
Informal Assessment - Class work/notebook/unannounced quizzes/ Homework-35% Formal Assessment—Tests and announced quizzes, and Projects - 65%

17 Grading Scale A= B= 85-92 C= 77-84 D=70-76 F= 69 and below

18 Corrections Tests and Projects/Writing Assignments with lower than an 84% can be brought up to an 84% through a test correction procedure as detailed by the teacher. Quiz corrections may only be made if the score is below an 80% and the student has NO missing assignments for that unit of study.

19 Classroom supplies 2-3 subject college ruled spiral notebooks (9x11 size with hard or plastic cover) #2 pencils for tests and a supply of colored pencils Blue or black pens for written work-- colored checking pen (color of your choice) Scissors Dry erase marker Highlighters SCOTCH TAPE!!
