Government Initiatives Trade Training Centres Job Ready Certificates SWL funding Career Advice Australia – LCPs

The Western Edge Cluster Trade Training Centre (TTC) AIM: To establish a state of the art community based trades training facility that will increase the participation of young people in industry standard VET programs in the Shire of Melton.

VET Courses The TTC will deliver industry standard skill shortage VETs in Automotive, Building and Construction, Engineering, Electro-technology and Hairdressing. It will also be the administrative hub for the other 14 VETs delivered by the Cluster including hospitality.

Location The TTC is a standalone major capital work, purpose designed and to be built on the Victoria University Melton Campus. The VU campus provides a central location and opportunities to integrate with its TAFE delivery

The Building The TTC building is designed to be a teaching tool with visible plumbing, framing and electrics. It includes workshops for identified trades that connect to a flexible space that services all trades and houses Digital Prototype machinery interfacing with the latest design software.

Innovative Features The Centre contains a learning common, an innovative student managed office with call centre facility designed to administer the TTC and to engage employers in structured workplace learning.

Community Strategy The TTC delivers strategies in the Shire of Melton Community Learning Plan to provide vocational learning opportunities for youth and WEC objectives to provide quality VET programs inclusive of all education sectors working together in partnership.

Community Resource The TTC is seen by all as an important resource to enhance community social connectedness and pathways opportunities.

Western LCP 2009 Commitment The LCP has one year remaining on its contract 2009 will be the transition year to prepare for the TTC The LCP will pilot programs and engagement strategies Ensuring these programs are sustainable for the future Aim to be a best practice model for other clusters in Western Region, state wide and nationally
