Renaissance Reading Levels all children with reading ages and allows us to track their progress and avoids ‘barking’ at words with little understanding. Please read with your child at home. Reading at home

International Primary Curriculum (IPC) Different topics throughout the year, all themed – cross curricular learning Half termly homework will be in their homework books Trips – Year 4 going to the Science Museum (Early October) Trip / Workshop later in the year for year 3’s In IPC we will be going on about one trip/workshop per term Artefacts within the classroom

P.E. P.E. will be on a Tuesday for year 4 and Monday for year 3. In year 3 the session will be with the sports coach whose name is Mr O’Keeffe. Year 4 will be taught in classes. There will be three areas of focus – games, gymnastics and dance. Additional P.E. sessions may also be taught as part of the IPC topic. It’s very important that your child has the correct P.E. kit in school at all times. P.E. kit must include the following: navy/black shorts, white T-shirt, tracksuit bottoms, a warm jumper, spare socks and a pair of trainers. Long hair must be tied back and earrings removed for health and safety reasons. Swimming for Hawthorn Class this term, and Cherry Class next term. Please be in on Friday between 8 and 8.15.

Uniform Please remember to clearly label your child’s cardigans, trousers, jumpers, ties, P.E. kits. Unaccounted items will be held for one week in class, and then put into the lost property cupboard.

Independent Learners In school, children are encouraged to be as independent as possible (e.g. organising themselves to go home, getting dressed and undressed for P.E. etc.) We would like all parents to support us in helping their child become independent at home as well as in school. Please encourage your child to dress themselves, complete homework as independently as possible offering guidance when needed, and giving gentle reminders about what they need to take to school (e.g. book bags, P.E. kits etc.) Also encourage learning in everyday life. For example, counting out money to pay for items when shopping, reading words when out and about – shop names, road signs etc.

School Gateway In an effort to reduce our costs and carbon footprint, we are becoming a paper-free school this year. So far, over 100 parents have provided us with their addresses for letters and bulletins to be sent to them. Presently, over 60 parents are using the smartphone app to view their child’s dinner money balances, pay any money owed and also to pay for trips, uniform and milk when necessary.

How do I start with School Gateway ? 1. your child’s name and class name to 2.Download the School Gateway app on your phone from your app store (Android and iPhone). or 3. Visit the website and click on ‘New User’. Type in your address and mobile number to receive a PIN that you can use to access the website.

Any questions?

Thank you for coming! We really appreciate your time.
