2 JSTOR Scholarly Journal Archive  Mission: (1) create a trusted archive of important scholarly literature, and (2) to extend access to that archive as broadly as possible.  Originally conceived as a demonstration project at The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation in 1994  Established as an independent not-for-profit organization in August 1995  Initially a pilot project (University of Michigan) to provide electronic access to the backfiles of ten journals in two core fields, economics and history  Offices in New York City and Ann Arbor, Michigan USA
