4 Newton – the Seeley The Seeley Historical Library collections are listed in database ‘Departments and Faculties O – Z’. The Seeley Historical Library The Newton catalogue can be subject-searched – also try the new LibrarySearch across all Newton librariesLibrarySearch Seeley does not hold archival material but does have some special printed collections and microfilms

5 Cambridge EResources EResources at Cambridge Select the ‘History’ option Many of the sources mentioned recognise the cam.ac.uk domain For some, access is via a Raven password, issued by the Computing Service - also gives off-campus access to some resources Athens passwords have now been discontinued. If a source requests Athens use the ‘alternative’ or ‘institutional’ login which should take you to a Raven option

7 Ebooks - subject collections Cambridge Histories Online http://histories.cambridge.org/uid=12021/private_home These collections include the Cambridge Companions Online, Early English Books Online, Eighteenth Century Collections Online and a selection of OUP reference material The series is grouped into topics making it easy to search and browse

8 Journal Articles JSTOR http://www.jstor.org/ An online file of journal back issues Access only titles to which Cambridge holds a subscription It operates a ‘moving wall’ of content so availability varies by title Has an online tutorial

9 Online articles Project Muse http://muse.jhu.edu/ 100% full-text access to over 380 high quality humanities, arts, and social sciences journals from 60 scholarly publishers Current issues and backfile Many other indexing and abstracting services, including JSTOR, are linked through to Muse

11 Article Databases Web of Knowledge http://wok.mimas.ac.uk A complex database of journal literature encompassing the ‘Web of Science’, in turn including the Arts and Humanities Citation Index Allows searches not only for articles but references to those items in other publications, creating a web of related works

The University has a subscription to ‘National Archives Documents Online’ which contains the full text of many digitised papers National Register of Archives http://www.nra.nationalarchives.gov.uk/nra/ Covers UK non-governmental material. The catalogue actually consists of over 44,000 unpublished catalogues and lists Access to Archives http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/a2a/ Archives held locally in England and Wales and dating from the eighth century to the present day

14 Primary Sources Archives Hub http://www.archiveshub.ac.uk A national gateway to descriptions of archives in 184 UK repositories, including Oxford and Cambridge Archive Grid http://archivegrid.org/web/jsp/index.jsp A major Union Catalogue of historical documents, personal papers and family history material around the world

15 Subject Gateways Intute http://www.intute.ac.uk No longer being updated but will run for this academic year. All the sites are selected and evaluated by subject experts. Intute runs a Virtual Training Suite for users History Online http://www.history.ac.uk/projects/history-online From the Institute of Historical Research operates ‘History On-Line’. Provides details of books and articles, UK university lecturers in history and their subject of interest, UK theses in progress and completed, and a list of history websites
