Her Work When Mary was 12 years old, she helped her Mother nurse sick people. Later on, she opened a Hotel to care for sick people and their families

Her journey to Britain When she was older, she traveled a lot which was unusual for women then. She loved watching boats and wanted to travel to Britain. The Crimean war had began in 1854, she wanted to help the wounded soldiers.

When she met Florence Nightingale Mary went to Florence Nightingale’s hospital but Mary had her own plans.

Her British Hotel Mary Seacole opened a hotel called the British Hotel. It was 2 miles away from the battle field in Balaclava.

What she cooked and sold Mary Seacole cooked Irish stew and rice puddings. She sold soldier things such as tins and saddles boots. She also ran a daily clinic to help ill soldiers, she was very kind and the soldiers called her mother Seacole.

How brave Mary was Mary was very brave: she helped wounded soldiers in the battlefield even under the cannon fire.
