Welcome to 4 th Grade Mrs. Lewnes and Mrs. Edmonston

HOMEWORK We generally give homework every night except Friday. Studying constitutes homework. Please reinforce this at home. We give Math and L.A. (in some form) nightly. We try our best to give advance notice for tests in S.S., Science and Religion.

Behavior Circle Behavior Chart in each room. Student will have to “move their clip”. All students start in the “Green Zone”. One move sends them to the “Yellow Zone” or warning. Two moves warrant a loss of some recess. Three moves sends them to the “Red Zone”. This warrants loss of all recess. Students can move their clips back to the “Green Zone” if there is a positive change in behavior.

Snack and Recess Please send in with a napkin. Small water bottles. Working snack around 10am Nutritious, but not messy. No spoons please.

Band Days Band days are Mondays. Children are responsible for their missed work when at band. It is up to them to find out what they missed. Our hope is to teach them that band is an important part of their lives, and that they need to be and can be responsible.

Test Folder We send home a weekly test folder. Please look through all the papers and sign the paper inside the folder.(do not have to sign every assignment) Please send us an or note if you have any questions about an assignment Please return all papers the next day. We will send home all papers each trimester.

Example of Folder

Lunch and Playground We will always go to the black top. On Fridays, we will use the field. Rough play is unacceptable. No footballs or Lax sticks

Religion Our focus in Religion is forgiveness and healing for the first part of the year. We move on to The Beatitudes and take a deeper look at The Ten Commandments. Although most students have already received the sacrament of Reconciliation, we do review this in class. We will go to Mass as class on Thursdays. We continually teach the theme of respect, forgiveness, and peaceful conflict resolution. We prepare the Advent Liturgy (Dec. 18th)

Math Drill facts often and timed Concepts: the skills Computation Problem solving Review for first few weeks Focus in fourth grade is to master multiplication and division of greater numbers Continued assessment of students and groups

Science and Social Studies Requires more studying this year. Challenging, yet fun. At times, need to bring in household supplies for an experiment or project. This is assigned homework! We try very hard not to give S.S. and Science tests in the same week.

Language Arts Reading – decoding and comprehension English – punctuation, grammar, sentence/paragraph structure Spelling – weekly and applied Phonics Penmanship Cursive is required Novels- listening comprehension
