Presentation transcript:

In your grammar notes, write an imitation of the sentence below and label all 8 parts of speech. Grr! I finished the race quickly, but I did not finish it in record time. **Just an FYI, “not” functions as an adverb, it modifies the verbs “did” and “finish.” We have spent 2 weeks covering the 8 parts of speech. This week is our final review before your first grammar quiz on Friday. *** Your quiz will also have literary devices that we discussed with “The Most Dangerous Game”

What were some of your imitations? Did you notice that I through a new word at you? Modifier... All that means is the adjectives and adverbs of the sentence. Instead of asking what is the adjective or adverb describing, you can ask what does the adjective or adverb modify? Ex:Grr! I finished the race quickly, but I did not finish it in record time. -What is the modifier of the verb finished? - What noun is record modifying?

In your grammar notes, write an imitation of the sentence below and label all 8 parts of speech. Wow! I received a lame card and a stale cupcake from the bakery down the street for my birthday, but my cousin is traveling to Disney World today for his birthday. We have spent 2 weeks covering the 8 parts of speech. This week is our final review before your first grammar quiz. *** Your quiz will also have literary devices that we discussed with “The Most Dangerous Game”
