Building Self- Esteem in children By: Briona Johnson

Why is Self-Esteem important for Children ? A child with self- esteem is a child who believes in himself They will know that they are worthy of being happy and worthy of respect It will allow them to be able to make their own decisions.

Because a Child Has High Self- Esteem… They will not feel the need to compare themselves to others They will find self happiness New Challenges are easier to take on They can make a mistake and not beat themselves up about it.

Areas of Self-Esteem Physical: feelings about body & health Emotional: how they feel about their feeling & how they express them Intellectual(cognitive): how they feel about how they think & solve problems Social: how they feel about how they get along with others

How to Improve the Self- Esteem of Children. Giving praise and encouraging comments Encourage them to do what they’re interested in After school sports and activities Encourage risk taking Key word: Encouragement
