Fiction A narrative in which situations and characters are invented by the writer.

Short Story A short concentrated fictional prose narrative

Theme The central idea of a work of literature

Setting The time and place of a story

CHARACTER TYPES Static character – a character who remains the same Dynamic character – a character who changes

Character Types Round Character- a character who has many different characteristics or traits; usually a main character. Flat Character- a character who only has one or two traits; usually a minor character.

Point of View The relationship of the narrator or storyteller to the story A) First Person Point of View- The story is told by one of the characters in the story; “I” B) Third Person Point of View- The narrator is not a character in the story. 1) Limited- reveals the thoughts of only one character 2) Omniscient- reveals the thoughts of all characters; all-knowing

Plot The sequence of events in a story. Each event causing or leading to the next.
