n Indirect speech or reported speech reports what a speaker said without using the exact words. n In reporting speech the tense usually changes. This is because when we use reported speech, we are usually talking about a time in the past.

Examples: n He said, “I live in Honduras.”  He said that he lived in Honduras.

n “It is a beautiful dress,” she said. n She told her that is was a beautiful dress. n He said, “ I speak English.” n He said that he spoke English.
