2 Introduction

Human rights being able to live the life you choose taking an active part in your community and wider society being safe and protected from harm being treated fairly and with dignity

Cultural Diversity race ethnicity dress values Age gender language religion and religious practice family and family responsibilities political views.

Diversity Benefits Increased innovation Improved service to clients Competitive management practices Modeling what we promote

Multiculturalism Multiculturalism is based on the acceptance, respect, understanding and appreciation of different cultures in the community. Multiculturalism has successfully placed the needs of people from diverse backgrounds onto the political and social agenda.

Why is diversity important? Educating managers and staff on how to work effectively in a diverse environment helps the workplace prevent discrimination and promote inclusiveness. It can enhance the organization's responsiveness to an increasingly diverse world of customers, improve relations with the surrounding community, increase the organization's ability to cope with change, and expand the creativity of the organization.

Compliance factors at workplace. Reduced discrimination and harassment. Reduce conflict, complaints and grievances Improved opportunities for all employees. Reduced staff turnover. Lower costs, increased profit. Happier, less stressed employees.

What is equality and diversity? Equality is about ‘creating a fairer society, where everyone can participate and has the opportunity to fulfill their potential’ ( 2004). It is about identifying patterns of experience based on group identity, and the challenging processes that limit individual’s ‘potential’ health and life chances.

How does diversity happen? People travel around a lot more in their own countries . They may go to live and work in other countries. When people move to other countries they add their diversity to that country in all sorts of ways - food, culture, religion, beliefs, music, and art are some of these differences.

Learn how to respect others We can all learn how to show respect to others by: Good communication and interpersonal skills Good listening skills Have a respect for my parents and elders. Being multicultural and by learning about different cultures, their traditions and customs

Discrimination Discrimination is less favorable or bad treatment of someone because of one or more aspects of their social identity. Understanding how discrimination can impact on individuals’ lives, work and performance is essential to prevent potential discrimination within the workplace We need to ensure that we are confident in dealing with discrimination issues if and when they arise.

Diversity Training At Workplace

Introduction Conflict resolution Preparing organizations for increases in racial, ethnic, cultural, and gender diversity Preparing employees for international work Safeguarding against harassment and unfair employment lawsuits Taking advantage of employee diversity to increase productivity Conducting cultural audits managing sexual attraction in the workplace
