Equality is not about treating everyone in the same way or giving certain groups of individuals 'extra rights', but it recognises that their needs are met in different ways.

A diversity approach aims to recognise, value and manage difference to enable everyone to contribute and realise their full potential. Diversity challenges us to recognise and value all sorts of difference in order to make our Trust a better place to everyone to work and be treated. In doing so, diversity also encourages understanding and allows us to be more aware of difference and helps us respect these differences for their individual merits.

Therefore it is essential that human rights are taken into account when delivering services to ensure quality care. Putting human rights at the heart of the way healthcare services are designed and delivered can make better services for everyone, with patient and staff experiences reflecting the core values of fairness, respect, equality, dignity and autonomy.

He was regularly tied to a bed or to a chair for sixteen hours at a time, to prevent him from hitting his head and face, causing him physical pain and mental anguish.
