Mrs. Robin Clayton It is good to be here

 Work Experience 1. I have taught in some form since I spent many years teaching toddlers and preschoolers. I was a Center Director for a corporate child care center for 10 years. 2. Before coming to SMS I taught 2 nd grade in Tewksbury as an over flow teacher. I substitute taught in Billerica and Tewksbury for grades I had an Associates Degree in Early Childhood and then decided to continue my education. I currently hold a Master Degree in Special Education and am licensed to teach Elementary Ed. 1-6 and Special Ed PK-8  Personal 1. I am a mother of two boys. Adam is a sophomore in High School. Chris is Sophomore in College. I know what it is like to be a parent of both a student who school comes easy to as well as a student who needs the support of special education. 2. I have been married for 25 years to my husband Bill. 3. In my free time I enjoy reading, gardening and traveling. 4. I love teaching.

 The biggest change in 3 rd grade is the beginning of independence.  Multiplication  Division  Developed writer  Cursive handwriting

 The students worked with me to develop the classroom rules as a team the first few days of school.  My core rule is RESPECT & RESPONSIBILITY  All students are individuals and are encouraged to question and reason with both the teacher and each other while maintaining a respectful attitude.  Each student is responsible for his/her own behavior  Each student is responsible for his/her work-School is their job not their parents.

 Homework will be assigned nightly Mon- Thursday for an average of 30 minutes.  Homework schedule is on the school website.  Tests are not all on Friday  Reading homework is nightly-new program  Math nightly  Science, Social Studies, Religion is random  Every student should practice their multiplication facts nightly and read for a min. of 15 minutes.

 Please review the handbook, I do follow this manual strictly.  If a child is out of dress code you will receive a note in the planner. The second time you will receive a school out of uniform note.  Following the dress code shows a respect for school rules.

 Books reports and subject related projects will be assigned once a monthly (on average)  Projects will always be started in school.  Rubric will always go home as an outline and be posted on class website  Some class instruction will be added to rubric- following directions in class is very important

 Students will be given an opportunity both in the morning and again in the afternoon to write down and organize their homework.  Each day homework assignments will be listed on the board.  Students are given the first few weeks to become independent about homework responsibility.  By late September all students will be held responsible for their homework. If homework is not completed they will grade will start to be affected. Staying in from recess to complete homework is not the same as doing homework at home. I do not like to take recess away.

 Parents should check their child’s take home folder daily and review completed work sent home.  Parents should check and initial the child’s planner each day.  Teacher will check and initial randomly as well.  Homework is your child’s responsibility  I do understand that sometimes things come up at home or a certain assignment might be difficult to help your child with. A note to me is all that is needed. I am flexible-it’s the responsibility that I want the students to learn.

o Formal and Informal Assessments 60% of grade This includes tests, quizzes, reports and class assignments o Class Participation 25% of grade this includes: attentive behavior during class instruction follows directions stays on task/attends exhibits cooperative learning habits participates in discussion-listening and sharing asks questions and responds to questions is prepared for instruction-has done required reading has brought the proper materials to class assignments evidence quality and completeness demonstrates a respectful attitude o Home assignments 15% of grade Timeliness of assignments Completeness of assignments Quality of assignments Accurateness of required Home Assignment Notebook

 Dangerous  DistructiveI want to know  Disturbing  Sometimes the problems have are of more of a minor nature. I want to encourage them to learn to work things out with each other. They still have a hard time ending problems even after discussed together so we have Tattle Turtle.

 School Website-monthly update at minimum  -I will respond to you within 24 hours  Planner  You are welcome to call school at any time  Conferences scheduled and at your request 7:15 am every day and 2:10 Mon, Tues, Thurs  Daily Papers-please review take home folder  Test folders sent home at least once a week-please sign

3 rd grade is a wonderful experience Your children will grow so much this year Please communicate with me and encourage your child to talk to me too. If you or your child has a question there is a good chance many more are curious about the same thing.
